Welcome to the Maths blog for 2018. Our teacher is Mrs Madden. We are looking forward to working together and learning new mathematical concepts and accelerate our learning. Check our blog regularly to see what we have been up to. We would love to read your comments.

Rua Tekau: celebrating mistakes
If we aren't making mistakes we are not learning anything new. Thank you group for celebrating and talking about your mistakes.
You are all great learners who are growing your brains.

Tekau: using our addition strategies in this game
Special Interest Yr 4: Intake 2
What an exciting time we had yesterday, we had Mrs Stuhlmann and Mrs Cometti join us.
Here we are exploring the Pascal triangle even further and sharing what we noticed.
We created our own wonderings or conjectures (we will explore this word more next week).
We were so fortunate to have so many great questions asked and two enthusiastic Maths Teachers discovering patterns alongside us.
Did you know that every 7th row the numbers are multiples of 7 - This is true for every Pascal triangle using 1 - 7 as the outside numbers. Thanks Mrs C for inspiring us and staying during your lunchtime with the team to prove this wondering
Miss S noticed and posed high level thinking questions. Harry explained his thinking well. Although Pascal Triangle is known for its addition it is also multiplication. Can you see and explain how?
Please come back and join us anytime Miss S and Mrs C!!

Can you see how multiplying the row leads to the sum of the middle answer below??

Tekau: Making our Maths vocabulary List
We know there are a lot of words and strategies to learn in mathematics. Our group wanted to share these on our blog and have a place they could find them.
Here we learnt about the empty number line and how we can make big jumps. We found making the nearest 10 helps us make the big jumps.

Toru Tekau: Sharing our reflections
This group meets once a week to work on a problem together.
Here we are sharing our learning to our problem:

Rua Tekau: doubling numbers
Today we worked together to answer doubling 596. We needed everyone's thinking to help solve this with our equipment.

Rua Tekau: Jade’s hard work
Jade worked hard to see the patterns in the number of 100. Can you see her multiplication and division facts. Well done!!

Special Interest: Pascal’s Triangle:
Exploring Pascals Triangle for the past two sessions has allowed us to explore patterns and sequencing of numbers at a high level.
