Kikorangi: Colour Run Questions

Today we were inspired to create our own problems about the colour run:
Renee's Problem:
If 500 people were at the run and 134 people received spot prizes,  How many people missed out?

Renee split the 134 into 100 and 34.
Then went 500 - 100 = 400
400 - 34 = ?  400 - 30 = 370
370 - 4 = 366.

Renee could split the numbers and work out the answer was 366 people missed out.  In our group two people won spot prizes.

Group Kikorangi, Kakariki measurement activity:

Here we are using our measurement skills to measure non straight lines.

We enjoy working together and finding the difference between two numbers. We also used estimation and how to use standard and non standard measurement.

It is great to use our mathematics skills towards a practical activity.

Team 5: Kowhai

We are working on our fractions.  We have read a picture book all about finding the fraction of cookies Grandma baked.

We then made our fraction walls to see how numbers can be split into different ways.

We have matched a variety of equilivant fractions and worked out fraction of sets.

Now we are putting all our skills together to answer our challenge.
