Group Rua- using animal arrays

Group wha: looking at fractions of a set

Looking at the Link between fractions, multiplication and division.

We can show our working out and explain our thinking.

Group Toru- fractions of sets

Our number talk today:

Finding3/4 of a number-

How do we find 3/4?
What do we already know?
- we know half and then we can work out 1/4.

Once we know 1/4 we just x 3
So it is 20 x 3 = 60.

We had lots of dialogue and discussions.
Well done team!!

Group Tahi : Amelena is in the hot seat- she is leading the learning today

Group Tahi and Rua

Using subertising cards:

Jujhar and Sonia wanted to practice using these cards at home.

Would anyone like to try this at home?

How can you work out the multiplication or times table fact?

Ie
2 groups of  6 is 12
Using the Maths symbols:
2 x 6 = 12

Draw the rectangle with this area.
 2 squares by 6 squares.

Group Rua- Logan Sharing his place value knowledge with the blocks

Special Interest - intake 1

Creating and drawing our fractions.

Looking at the denominator - which tells us how many pieces in our whole.

the numerator tells us how many pieces are being used.

Allan said he now knows fractions must have equal parts. If the are not equal they are just pieces.

Group Rua- using the place value blocks to make numbers

Can you see how to make 9 ones and two hundreds?

Look how fourteen is made.
1 ten and 4 ones

Place value helps us add/subtract and use larger numbers.

We love these blocks they put pictures in our heads.

Group Rua- looking at our symbols.

Isla is sharing the same as sign or "equal" sign.

Here she has recorded all the different ways to make 12.

Well done Isla, Can you think of anymore?

Group wha-division

Using the subertising cards to show division and our family of facts.

Often we know our times tables and get stuck on division- we are trying to learn both these facts together.

Group Toru- finding all the rectangles with an area of 32

Here we making the links between division and area.

Well done Olivia

Group Rua - creating rectangles and pictures to show multiplication or area

Here we are working out how to show our times tables and what it means. Making rectangles helps put patterns in our minds.

Group Tahi- using subertising cards to make the links between repeated addition and multiplication.

Here we are making groups this is multiplication.

We know the symbol for groups is "times" or "x"
